On this date in Iowa

March 23, 1925

The farmers and townspeople of Lake Mills, Iowa, ban together to form an oil cooperative. They are fed up with the local oil industry, which has been charging six cents or more in “clear profit” on each gallon of gasoline. The new oil cooperative cuts prices and all profits remain in the community.
