On this day in Iowa

May 2, 1892

The steamship "Tynehead" leaves port at New York harbor bound for Russia. It is filled with donations from Iowa for relief of the the Russian famine. The ship carried medicine, wheat and two hundred railroad cars' worth of Iowa corn.
