Did you know that April is National Poetry Month?

National Poetry Month is intended to be a celebration of American Poetry. According to, it was “inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996 ... and is now held every April, when publishers, booksellers, literary organizations, libraries, schools and poets around the country band together to celebrate poetry and its vital place in American culture.” Carnegie Stout Public Library will be celebrating all month, so stop in and check out the display of poetry books and pick up a calendar of activities to do at home. You might even try your hand at creating a poem with our magnetic word games.
