It's another sports themed month for September's Magazines of the Month. The U.S. Open is in full swing, until the final matches on September 9th, and the first game of the NFL season will be on September 5th, and you can get the inside scoop on the worlds of tennis and football in the pages of Tennis and ESPN respectively.
Tennis is the official publication of the United States Professional Tennis Association, and produces eight issues every year. Their website has all the latest information on U.S. Open, up to date player rankings, information to help you improve your game, and more: www.tennis.com
ESPN is, unsurprisingly, the official magazine of the sports network ESPN. There's a new issue every two weeks, and they're probably most famous for their annual Body Issue, which features nude pictures of a variety of athletes from Olympians to linebackers. You can check out their website to learn more about all their features: insider.espn.go.com/insider/espn-the-magazine
Stop into the library to check out our display of football and tennis books and movies on the second floor!

3D Blu-rays at Carnegie-Stout Public Library
3D Blu-rays are ready to check out at Carnegie-Stout Public Library, thanks to a gift from our private, non-profit Library Foundation.
For 3D effects, you will need a 3D Blu-ray player, 3D TV with glasses, and a compatible HDMI cable.
If you do not have a 3D player or TV, the same titles are available at the Library in regular Blu-ray and DVD formats.
Our 3D Blu-ray starter collection is very small. Here's what we have so far:
Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter
Avatar
The Avengers
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
Journey to the Center of the Earth
Life of Pi
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Prometheus
Thor
Titanic
Top Gun
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
We will add more titles as they are released, so please let us know if you have any 3D Blu-ray suggestions!
Jason Mott's "The Returned"
Officially released this Tuesday, Jason Mott's debut "The Returned", a novel of how the world, a community and a family reacts when the dead return to life, has already been made into a TV series by ABC.
Renamed "Resurrection," it will premiere on March 9, 2014.
As if that wasn't enough, Mott has also released two short story prequels to "The Returned", "The First" and "The Sparrow." Although they are currently only available as Kindle books, but they are free!
"The Returned" has earned high marks from reviewers (Kirkus, EW, Publisher's Weekly, Booklist, USA Today) and appeared on the first LibraryReads list. Does it live up to the hype? You can put a hold on it and tell us yourself! And you can try to keep up with Mott on his website, Facebook and Twitter.

P.S. The excellent blog Book Riot is holding a giveaway of the book. Just answer the question "Where would you go if you were returned?" Submit your entry here: http://bookriot.com/2013/08/28/giveaway-where-would-you-go-if-you-were-returned/
